Kenya : Day 3 : Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is south of Lake Nakuru and here we had the opportunity to take a boat ride across the lake ... we passed a family of hippos huddled together and lots of bird life ... cranes, king fishers and of course the Fish Eagles. There were 3 pairs of Fish Eagles along the banks of the lake. We landed on Crescent Island where on foot, we experienced a bush walk on African soil. We had a guide and he took us up the side of a volcano crater where we had a spectacular view of "Crater Lake". Along the way, we were lucky enough to walk witin meters of lots of zebra, Thompsons gazelles and other buck and giraffes. I've put together some of my personal best shots of this experience for you to see ... enjoy!

On our boat trip back, our guide bought some fish from the local fishermen and we were then treated to a spectacular display of agility and amazing accuracy as the Fish Eagles each swooped in for their "take-away" dinner! It was seriously one of the most amazing highlights for me ... I love the Fish Eagles and I felt so privileged to see nature in action at such close range ... unfortunately, we can't always control our circumstances and as you will note ... I had the perfect shot all lined up, I'd caught every angle of the approach, the turns, and on the final dive ... yep ... our boat had turned and I hadn't realised it ... and so ... a perfect shot of the front of a white boat ... ??!!! You can imagine or perhaps you can't imagine my disappointment and frustration ... but I got the take off again so all was not lost !!

In the late afternoon, five of us took a little tour to Elsamere which is the home of the late Joy and George Adamson who were famous for their contribution to Kenyan wildlife and her artistry of the Africa. They hand reared the famous lioness, Elsa who was completely tame when they released her back into the wild ... and they also set up their home to rehabilitate injured wild animals. When you see the location of their home, it is no wonder that they loved Africa so much ... it is a perfect setting of tranquility and beauty surrounded by natural sights and sounds of the bush ... we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea party, a wander through their museum and a relaxing stroll around the stunning gardens ...
