Home Sweet Home : Logos II in Kiel

I thought it would be good to give an indication of where the Logos II is located in the harbour of Kiel. We are, at present, almost at the point of the harbour, very close to the main shopping centre and right near the Customs House (see the building to the left of the ship). We are surrounded by 2 huge car ferry terminals - one which is on the same side of the dock as us which takes people to Sweden and the other, Colour Lines which takes people to Norway. There are 2 Swedish ferries which run every day and the Norway route goes about every 2-3 days. There is also a smaller little harbour near us which houses some old yachts and sail boats and makes the harbour look very pretty. We also have some nice views of the city from the outer decks.

There is a long promenade walk and cycle pathway which goes all the way up the quayside for kilometres and kilometres ... right up to the Kiel Canal and has lots of rowing clubs along the edge. Rowing is a big sport here and we often see singles, doubles, 4 man and 8 man teams rowing up the harbour every day.

On Monday, 15 October, the ship will be sailing out of port into international waters and then returning to the Ostseekai which is a double berth further up the harbour. This is so that the Logos Hope can berth alongside us in mid-November if all goes according to plan. Anyway, here are some photos of the ship, the harbour and also some of the people that I'm sharing life with here in Kiel.

Old Ships and Yachts - the Logos II is located on the right hand side of this picture - you can just see the Customs House building in the top right hand corner. We cross the little bridge to the other side.

City views from the outer deck ... the old ships and yachts are on the left hand side of this photo next to the tall building

Looking up one of the main streets that leads to a long shopping street, a bit like the Manly Corso but much longer than the Corso with lots and lots of different shops.
