Kenya : Day 5 : Narok to the Masai Mara

Leaving Narok behind (see my little blue tent home below!), we headed towards the famous Masai Mara ... open plains across thousands of miles which during the months of July to November are home to the mass migration of the wildebeest and zebra who trek between Tanzania's Serengeti Plains and Kenya's Masai Mara on a yearly migration chasing the rains.

It was appropriate that as we were entering the Masai Mara region, we stopped at the home of the Masai people and thanks to Jackson our guide, we witnessed the Masai Warrior Dance in preparation for war and also used for chasing predators away ... particularly lions who look to attack their herds of cattle, particularly the calves. We also went inside the hut of a Masai family which in itself was an experience and we saw the plight of the Masai children ... especially those that are sick and suffering ... it was something I will never forget ...

In the Masai Mara we saw approximately 2.5 million wildebeest who form the migration herds, we also saw our first "Big Cat" - a leopard ... and then we saw lions, elephants, crocodiles, hippos, hyaena, warthogs, baboons, giraffes ... and so much more ... enjoy ! I have included a Jenet Cat which is very rare to see!

Towards dusk, we suddenly came across two young male lions who were quite obviously checking out a suitable meal for the evening ... there were no females around so we were informed that they were likely to kill for themselves in this situation ... two brothers on the hunt ... wow ... it was so awesome that words would not justify describing the scene!
