Kenya : Day 7 : Masai Mara to Nairobi

On our last day in the Masai Mara, we were once again up before the sun ... and this time the conditions were perfect for hot air ballooning ... WOW ... what a superb, breathtaking experience it was to rise above the earth in a big basket powered only by hot air and to be at the mercy of the elements ... we saw the migration from up on high which just reminded me of a big wave crashing onto the brown veld and leaving it's dirty brown wave mark across the earth ... I think you'll see what I mean when you see it ...

There were 2 balloons that left our site ... one yellow and one green ... I was in the green one ... it's holds 16 people plus the operator so the basket was surprisingly big and at the end, we were able to purchase a CD which had photos of the experience so I have used one or two of their shots for effect but most are ones that I took!

When we were coming back to earth, we nearly landed in Tanzania having been chased by a baby zebra who got horribly confused and frigthened by the balloon ... and we ended the experience with a fantastic buffet catered breakfast under an Acacia tree with champagne and orange juice and a full spread of delicious treats served by Masai waiters ... it was spectacular and something I will cherish for many, many years to come ... watching the sun rise and being above it was pretty amazing, seeing animals from the air and at our highest point we were 1,000 meters up was just the most exhilerating moment ... a fantastic way to end our Masai Mara experience.

On our way back to Nairobi, we saw 3 female lions very heavily pregnant! Once we were back in Nairobi, we all went out to the famous restaurant called "Carnivores" where, as you can imagine, the menu was meat, meat, meat and more meat ... we ate ostrich (which surprisingly, I really enjoyed!), ostrich meatballs, crocodile, camel ... and then the usual, lamb, beef, pork and chicken ... it was an interesting night !!!??
